Welcome!

Let Backbeat Tours lead you on a tour as unique as our hometown, Memphis, Tennessee. Conveniently located on Beale Street in downtown Memphis, we offer our highly rated Memphis Mojo Tour, our nightly tours of Haunted Memphis, as well as two new walking tours: our Historic Memphis Walking Tour and our Memphis Cocktail Tour. Elvis fans can join us on our Hound Dog Tour during Elvis Week and Elvis Birthday Week. All of our tours are led by professional guides who use music, comedy, and song to create a one-of-a-kind touring experience. Our tours have been featured in Southern Living magazine, Memphis Magazine, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and the Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper, and on the BBC, Irish TV, Japanese TV, and Fox 13 News.

Memphis Mojo Tour

The Memphis Mojo Tour is our most popular tour and has been ranked as the best tour in Memphis by Tripadvisor.com. The tour offers 2 hours of high energy fun on this musical journey through Memphis greatest attractions. Visit Beale Street, the Peabody Hotel, the Overton Park Shell, the Lorraine Motel , Civil War sights and movie locations while listening to toe-tappin' renditions of the hits of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, Robert Johnson, and Otis Redding, just to name a few. For the complete Memphis experience, try our Big Mojo Tour, which offers everything in our Memphis Mojo Tour, plus a one-hour guided tour of Sun Studio.

Our Haunted Memphis Walking Tours explore the darker side of Memphis. Do we see ghosts? We can’t guarantee it, but it’s not uncommon. This year, we offer two haunted tours – the Memphis Ghost Tour, a two-hour walk for serious paranormal enthusiasts, and the Dark Side of Memphis Tour, a one-hour walk for those who prefer a little history with their haunts.

This year, we are offering two NEW walking tours: the Historic Memphis Walking Tour and the Memphis Cocktail Tour. The Historic Memphis Walking Tour combines a 90-minute guided walk of historic downtown Memphis with a 20-minute breakfast stop for coffee and muffins and a chance to see the famous Duck March at the Peabody Hotel. See sweeping views of the Mississippi River and stately architectural landmarks as you hear about the saints and sinners, heroes and villains that have made Memphis such a unique and memorable city.

The Memphis Cocktail Tour allows visitors to go beyond the bars of Beale Street to sample that most American of beverages – the cocktail. On this two-hour walking tour, we’ll introduce you to vintage cocktails, signature martinis, rare Kentucky bourbons and Tennessee whiskeys at favorite local taverns and historic drinking establishments. Along the way, you’ll learn the history of the American cocktail from its earliest days as the drink of “sporting men” through the raucous Prohibition years to the martini era of the 40s and 50s. Not a pub crawl; this is a tour for the cocktail connoisseur in all of us!

For Elvis fans, we offer our Hound Dog Tour during the Elvis Birthday Celebration in January and Elvis Week in August. Follow in the footsteps of Elvis, as you see Humes High School, Lauderdale Courts, the Overton Park Shell, Libertyland, Immaculate Conception High School, Supercycles, and radio station WHBQ. With our guides playing live all of your favorite Elvis hits and telling you the behind-the-scenes stories of Elvis' life, it's the next best thing to riding with the King himself.

All of our tours are available as a step-on service or as custom private tours for tour operators, conventions and corporate groups, family reunions, church and school groups, or any party of 15 or more. Charter tour operators may want to try a History Tour to see the historic side of our beautiful city, a Pub Crawl to sample the nightlife, an excursion to Oxford to see the home of William Faulkner, or an excursion to Tupelo to see Elvis' birthplace. For foodies, we offer progressive lunches and dinners, as well as outings to the world-famous Viking Cooking School. Planning a corporate event? An interactive event, such as our Scavenger Hunt or Amazing Memphis Race, is the perfect activity to bring your group together. Student groups will appreciate a visit to the National Civil Rights Museum or the Mississippi River Museum. Have a special event such as a wedding or an off-site convention dinner? Consider chartering the Backbeat bus for stylish and entertaining transportation!

Great tour to take with kids
"... We wanted to see Memphis in a short time and learn about its music and this was perfect. ... Plus it was great for the kids. Our younger two are 6 and 2 and they were engrossed – banging those tambourines and shakers the entire time. Highly recommended"
