The darker side of Memphis

Do you believe in ghosts? Explore the darker side of Memphis and hear tales of the city's haunted heritage as told by entertaining, professional storytellers. This year, we're offering two ghostly tours. Ghost fiends will love our expanded two-hour Memphis Ghost Tour. For those who like a little history with their haunts, we offer our one-hour Dark Side of Memphis Tour. All tours are appropriate for children over 6, so bring the kids if they dare.

MEMPHIS GHOST TOUR

Beyond the rhythms of Beale Street's blues lies a darker history of vice, voodoo, phantoms, ghosts and lost souls. Hear the eerie legends, while seeing some of Memphis' oldest sites. Available Sundays and the last Friday of each month. For tours on those nights, see the Dark Side of Memphis Tour. Highlights of this two-hour tour include:

The Orpheum Theater, home of "Mary," who has haunted performances since 1921
South Memphis' old "Voodoo Fields"
The notorious Ernestine & Hazel's, a former brothel long recognized as one of the most haunted buildings in America.

DARK SIDE OF MEMPHIS TOUR

Before Memphis was the home of the blues, it was a rowdy river town full of rogues and gamblers, crooks and con men, voodoo queens and ladies of the night. Explore the darker side of Memphis history as we search for ghosts and apparitions from the distant and not-so-distant past. Highlights of this one-hour tour include:

The Gayoso House, site of a brutal murder and several paranormal phenomena
The bloody Civil War hospital (and former slave market) of Howard's Row
Barboro Alley – also known as "Deadman's Alley" – site of a gruesome chapter in Memphis history during the yellow fever epidemic of 1878. "
